On the occasion of its première at the Berlin International Film Festival,
Prada has created a special window and instore display for Wes Anderson’s The
Grand Budapest Hotel movie, which is visible at the Prada Berlin store (Kurfuerstendamm 186) from February 6 to 16, 2014.
Two windows and a dedicated inside set up show a selection of the exclusive
set of custom-made suitcases and trunks that Prada – taking inspiration from
the brand's own vintage models from the 1920s and 30s - designed for two of the
leading characters, as well as a black nappa leather coat for Joplin, played by
Willem Dafoe.
The models designed for the film's leading lady, Madame D. played by Tilda
Swinton, have a wooden frame wrapped in soft vacchetta leather to create a
vintage effect, in oak and natural tones, and are lined in peach pink sateen
cotton. The suitcases were given additional custom touches by artist Mieke
Casal, who painted the initials of the character Mdm. C.V.D.u.T (Madame Céline Villeneuve
Desgoffe und Taxis) on the leather in typical 20s style.
The same leather was chosen for the leading male character, M. Gustave
played by Ralph Fiennes, but this time in black with the internal lining in
black canneté fabric.
This is the latest in a series of collaborations between the American
director and Prada, which include the recent short film Castello Cavalcanti.
Prada continues to partner leading international directors, confirming yet
again the multidisciplinary approach that characterises the brand's ongoing
relationship with a variety of different worlds, from fashion to art, and
cinema to architecture.
