DEL RIO LONDON

DEL RIO LONDON IS THE HOTLY TIPPED FLAT SHOE BRAND THAT HAS UNDENIABLY COME TO REPRESENT THE CITY’S SPIRITED STYLE FOLLOWING ITS LAUNCH IN 2010. THE WINNING FORMULA? ...CHIC YET UTTERLY WEARABLE AND UNDERSTATED SHOES.

IN A SEASON SATURATED WITH ESPADRILLES, THE CREATIONS OF DEL RIO LONDON ARE A WELCOME CHANGE IN SUMMER SHOES. DESIGNED IN A LONDON STUDIO AND CREATED IN SOUTHERN SPAIN USING ARTISANAL TECHNIQUES OVER A TWO-DAY CRAFTING PROCESS, THE BRAND’S SIGNATURE SLING-BACK FLAT IS  JUST THE RIGHT MIX OF LUXE AND CASUAL. WITH A CLEAN AND SIMPLE DESIGN, THE SHOES COME WITH AN UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE - UNSURPRISING, GIVEN THE DESIGNER’S ORIGINAL INSPIRATION OF THE TRADITIONAL FOOTWEAR WORN BY SPANISH ROYALTY. SUPPORTED BY THE BRAND’S CAREFUL SELECTION OF MATERIALS, FROM NATURALLY LUXURIOUS PEARL STINGRAY TO THE LIKES OF VINTAGE CHANEL BOUCLÉ AND HERMÈS CASHMERE, A PAIR OF DEL RIO LONDON FLATS LEND THEMSELVES TO A SUMMER TAILORED SUIT JUST AS WELL AS THEY DO THE SIMPLEST OF COTTON DRESSES.

THE GREAT NEWS IS THAT THIS FIRM NEW FAVOURITE IS NOT JUST ABOUT WOMEN: SIZES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE FOR MEN AND KIDS - THE KIDS VERSION ARE SO CUTE, BE WARNED. THE ENDLESS COMBINATIONS OF LEATHERS AND FABRICS WITH CONTRASTING SLING BACK STRAPS MEAN THAT TRYING TO DECIDE ON WHICH TO CHOOSE IS ABOUT AS TOUGH AS THE RECYCLED TYRE SOLE USED ON EACH PAIR! WITH SLIPPER-LIKE COMFORT, IT WOULD BE RUDE NOT TO TREAT YOUR FEET.

The workshop is located on mainland in the Spanish countryside surrounded by lemon and orange trees. It takes up to two days to make a pair, every detail is made by hand, first the cutting of the leather pieces and the innersoles, even the logo is added by hand, the pieces are then stitched together and lastly they are combined and finalised to complete a pair. The leathers used are limited and come from Italy, Spain and Belgium.

AN ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAINS

CHRISTINE PHUNG AW 14/15

"Everyday life diverts us from the important things…" - Charlotte Perriand

Christine Phung has created a character around which to base her Autumn/Winter 2014-15 collection: that of a girl from a mountain on a dark night, under a canopy of stars. As she weaves through the trees, cloaked in powdery snow, she becomes dazed by her own speed, aware of the elements around her - rock, snow, ice, stars, the forest itself - enveloping her. The lines in the snow cut through the landscape and she is overwhelmed by the sharp contrast of the heat from her own body and the bitter cold that ripples over her skin.
In her delirium she no longer knows if she is falling or flying, whether the slopes are cabin rooves or springboards from which to soar, if the light she sees comes from a fireplace or a blaze glowing from the other side of the mountain. She has lost consciousness, floating in a sweet slumber.

In her search for freedom through this internal reflection, she wears a patchwork of appliquéd cashmere wool, sparkling crystals which mimic the glistening snow, woven jacquard representing the snow-covered mountains combined with feathers and snowflake lace, while pleated dresses digitally printed with wild flames from her imagination.

AN ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAINS

« Le quotidien nous éloigne de l'essentiel… » - Charlotte Perriand

MY AMERICAN DREAM

PHILIPP PLEIN

Women’s Fall/Winter 2014/2015 Fashion Show

Milan, 23 February 2014. As the stage lights up, a customized black matte Chevrolet El Camino appears at a vintage gas station. The car door opens and British actress/pop star Rita Ora descends , decked out in studs and cowboy hat , and gives a high voltage performance kicking off the PHILIPP PLEIN women’s fall/winter 2014/2015 fashion show.

Legendary super model and international celebrity Naomi Campbell appears on the catwalk to introduce the new collection, Philipp Plein’s personal homage to the American Dream. A grand finale of fireworks that engulf the El Camino, followed by a huge explosion on the mega led screen mark the end of the show in grandiose Texan style.
“I visited Dallas with my family when I was fifteen, and was captivated by its pioneer spirit. Today America is my new frontier. I designed this collection looking west. Using precious fabrics and sophisticated skins like hand brushed, gold flecked python, not to mention strong denim pieces inspired by the American Dream. I created ultra- feminine dresses adorned with tartan flounces and veils in contrast with voluptuous limited edition evening silhouettes embellished with delicate leather paillettes. Black & gold dominate the collection alternating with houndstooth, mink and chinchilla for dramatic effect.”
Following the inauguration of the New York showroom and the Miami boutique in 2013, PHILIPP PLEIN will continue the US expansion in 2014, opening flagship stores in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

1920s club

On February 20, 2014, during Milan Fashion Week, Prada presented a new chapter of The Iconoclasts project.

Edward Enninful’s original vision for Prada women’s and men’s Monte Napoleone stores, was inspired by the energy and original thought of the ‘Harlem Renaissance’.

Enninful’s Prada women’s store was filled with a cast of black and white mannequins dressed in Prada SS14 and archive looks – guests at an imagined 1920s club – complete with glittering art-deco bar, evoking the atmosphere of Harlem. The men’s store hosted a cast of black and white mannequins dressed in Prada SS14 and archive pieces, set amongst game tables, 1920s food and cocktails, and the strains of a jazz blues band.

More than 2000 guests attended the events. Maria Carla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Joan Small, Mario Boselli, Beppe Modenese e Piero Pinto, Carla Sozzani, Pupi Solari, Linda Fargo, Franco Pené,  Marpessa Hennink, Francesco Vezzoli, Paola Manfrin, Marta Marzotto, Allegra Bossi Pucci, Arturo Artom, Anthony C. Edward Enninful ha interpretato l’immagine dei negozi Prada donna e uomo di via Monte Napoleone a Milano, ispirandosi all’energia creativa e allo spirito dell’ ‘Harlem Renaissance’.
