‘(Im)possible’

‘She danced, and was obliged to go on dancing through the dark night. The shoes bore her away over thorns and stumps till she was all torn and bleeding; she danced away over the heath to a lonely little house. Here, she knew, lived the executioner; and she tapped with her finger at the window and said:

“Come out, come out! I cannot come in, for I must dance.”’

The Red Shoes, Hans Christian Anderson

The dance of death must end. Trapped in its hostile environment an animal will die.  It will try to leave. It will leave but there is nowhere to go. The models are people who have a home like you and me. We must stop Climate Change to avoid our total catastrophe.
Climate Revolution working with Environmental Justice Foundation asks you to help Climate Refugees by filling in the postcard on your seat and we will send it to Ban Ki-moon.
I wrote:
Anyone who gets home late from work and finds she’s forgotten the key. What a disaster!
My home is my refuge.

Planet earth is our home. Yet climate change now makes someone homeless every second.

I believe it's essential we bring economic and ecological intentions into alignment, and establish more cooperative systems, to protect our planet and its people. I do believe this is possible.

For Men Only

A NEW IMAGE FOR PRADA IN NEW IMAGE
Prada renews its men's store in Via Monte Napoleone 6, Milano with a project designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi. The inside space, arranged on three floors, occupies a total surface of 860 square metres. Outside, the storefront, that respects the building’s original architecture, features a new, wide central entrance creating an immediate visual connection between the store’s inside and the city.
The ground floor and first floor offer the leather goods, accessories, footwear and ready-to-wear collections. The Prada Made to Order service provides for the possibility to customise garments, accessories and footwear by choosing among different materials, finishes and colours.
On the second floor, the Made to Measure service is available: a project designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding male customers, whereby a wide range of "bespoke" variations of suits, coats, jackets, shirts and trousers are created.
A new combination between the masculine, contemporary character of the location and an apparent dissonance in the choice of materials and finishes characterises the ground floor. The black and white chequered marble floor, one of Prada’s historic brand identity elements, contrasts against the walls clad in natural aluminium corrugated panels, an experimental material looking like a 1950s industrial finish.
Also, the traditional beamed ceiling architectural theme is interpreted by matching the classic Prada pale green with aluminium details. The upper floor, about 220 square metres large, is an open space, characterised by ebony wood floors and aluminium panels covering the walls completely.
This environment is rhythmically arranged with a wall made of an evenly spaced sequence of windows and a long black marble colonnade, interrupted by the marble stairs and by the crystal elevator casing connecting all the floors. Light metal and crystal frames are used to display products, whilst bright red, green and blue saffiano leather is used in the design of display counters.
Furniture is completed by seats and sofas made of precious ostrich leather in the same colours. The top floor, bright with daylight, is clad in thin staves of wood. The masculine, atelier-like flair of this space is interpreted in a more intimate key here; the product display also highlights the welcoming character of this environment, which is dedicated to special collections and the Made to Measure service.

After New York... Shanghai!

I costumi disegnati da Miuccia Prada e Catherine Martin

per il film di Baz Luhrmann ‘Il Grande Gatsby’

ora in mostra a Shanghai

Miuccia Prada and Catherine Martin Dress Gatsby exhibition in Shanghai

Costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and Catherine Martin

for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film ‘The Great Gatsby’

on display in Shanghai

The travelling exhibition of selected costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin for Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of The Great Gatsby is now on display at the Prada IFC store in Shanghai, China. The opening cocktail was held at the Prada and Miu Miu IFC stores on September 10 2013.
An Academy Award® and Tony® winning costume designer and art director, Catherine Martin is world-renowned for her collaborations with husband Baz Luhrmann on the films Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge and the Broadway stage design for La Bohéme.
The exhibition - titled Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby and curated by New York studio 2x4 - includes women’s gowns, dresses, hats, shoes and jewelry as well as sketches, production stills, backstage footage and film trailers.
Very strict guidelines came from Catherine Martin in terms of references and details on fabrics, colors, materials that had to be period accurate, but modern at the same time. While working on the costumes, Miuccia Prada realized how many pieces created for the Prada and Miu Miu runways in different seasons had a very ‘20s mood once integrated in the movie’s direction. At once historical and utterly contemporary, the dresses are realized in brilliant iridescent metallic lamé, sequins, silk taffeta, dyed fur, velvet and styled with fantastical hats, shoes and accessories.
The display is comprised of translucent Fiberglas mannequins lit from free-standing bases that include photographs and a brief biography of the character that wore the costume. The biographies reveal the rich and detailed way in which Catherine Martin imagines even minor characters in each scene. The mannequins are contextualized by a collage mural depicting the riotous party scene where many of the Prada and Miu Miu dresses make their appearance, and large-scale video displays that present scenes from the film.
