Bally Boulevard des Capucines Re-Opens

Bally is pleased to announce the re-opening of its newly refurbished Paris boutique on the Boulevard des Capucines. Located on the edge of the prestigious “Triangle d'Or”, it’s an historic spot for Bally given that the Swiss brand has occupied the same space since the 1920s.
Together with the Bally makeover, unveiled on December 14, the Boulevard des Capucines itself is undergoing a transformation with the recent arrival of a number of luxury jewellery and watch brands on the Boulevard.
The re-configured space spans two floors, totals 244 sqm and houses the watch brandsmen’s and women’s collection of shoes, bags, accessories, leather goods and ready-to-wear. Soothing, intimate and comfortable in ambience, the store features include multimedia screens, soft lighting, Italian marble floors and pure wool carpets. Some of the walls and shelving are lined with alcantara, while comfortable leather seating comes rectangular and brown for men or white and circular for women. Considered design features such as these subtly help delineate between collections for men and women. On the ground floor, men’s leather goods and small accessories sit on one side of the store. In contrast, the wall opposite featuring women’s handbags has a different, distinctive textured plaster finish. It’s a configuration that is echoed on the second floor that houses women’s and men’s ready to-wear and shoes.
Another pivotal feature of the second floor is a freestanding salon located between the men and women’s collections that is specially dedicated to Scribe, Bally’s heritage men’s made-to-order collection. Here, customers are encouraged to sit and take their time choosing style, sole, colour and material on precision made personalised shoes that take approximately eight weeks to produce. The location of the salon here is of particular significance given that the Hotel Scribe on Rue Scribe, from where the collection takes its name, can be seen directly opposite.

BARCELONA

PRADA OPENS IN BARCELONA

Prada opens a new store in Barcelona in Paseo de Gracia, a few steps from Gaudí’s La Pedrera. The boutique offers women’s and men’s collections of ready-to-wear, leather goods, accessories and footwear. Designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi, it is one of Prada’s biggest European stores, occupying a total area of 1600 square metres on a single level. The façade blends harmoniously into that of the beautiful old building hosting the store. The entrances and store windows exhibit the brand’s classic materials, such as black metal and burnished brass, which complement the building’s cast iron columns. The entrances lead to two very different settings. The women’s area features a perspective sequence of black marble and mirror portals flanked by elegant polished steel cabinets with black marble drawers, used for displaying leather goods and accessories. The veined black and white marble floor, the green canvas walls and the brightly coloured counter displays create a setting that is both sophisticated and exclusive, carefully studied for each individual product. The sequence of portals leads to a raised room; this, too, is devoted to leather goods. Here, the black and white marble floor is replaced by soft beige carpeting, the steel cabinets are succeeded by Prada’s traditional display niches set into green canvas-lined walls. This is followed by two large rooms, the first hosting a special selection of Made to Order accessories, the second given over to footwear. The soft effect of the walls and the refinement of the polished-steel and glass tables are enhanced by the deep green velvet of ‘Clover Leaf’ sofas designed by Verner Panton and reproduced exclusively for Prada. The last room, featuring womenswear, is lined with green canvas and furnished with Perspex display cases, clear skylights, Perspex and steel tables in original, geometric shapes and green velvet seating, creating an intimate, captivating ambiance. A major detail of this room is the large window, framed in beautiful, black marble, that opens onto the outdoor garden. The masculine character of the men’s area is defined by the flooring of thin Saint Laurent marble slabs and walls finished in bright orange encaustic work. The leather goods and accessories collections are in the first room. A Saint Laurent marble staircase leads to the footwear and ready-to-wear department, where orange ostrich-leather walls and sofas and ebony floorboards create a bold setting with a strong character. Palladium and glass cabinets and counters with colourful displays complete the furnishings. The Made to Measure project is presented in a dedicated area with green saffiano leather-lined walls. The inner courtyard, reached via a travertine staircase, is particularly stunning. The green marble walls and the cast iron columns – a legacy of this elegant old building – reveal an intimate space reserved for the most discerning clientele; it can also be accessed from the women’s area.

PRADA INAUGURA A BARCELLONA

Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler Announces

The Opening Of Their Flagship Store At
121 Greene Street in New York

Proenza Schouler announced today the opening of their second store at 121 Greene Street in New York.

Designed by Adjaye Associates, the flagship location features a 2500 square foot retail area and brings forth elements from the Madison Avenue location.
Housed within a historic cast iron fronted building, an antechamber with sliding glass doors forms a ‘façade within a façade’ that acts as a display area as visitors enter the space. Once inside, the space is dominated by a number of planes and geometries culminating in a dramatic concrete staircase leading to a lower level illuminated by natural light flooding in from the original glass canopy to the rear of the building.
The ground floor, which hosts mainly ready to wear, and the lower level, featuring handbags, shoes and small leather goods, are punctuated by a series of concrete display cubes that run throughout the space. At street level, the main double height is rectangular on plan and culminates in a blackened steel screen that reaches the full height of the entire double volume space. Harkening back to the original bronze screen in the first Proenza Schouler store, it offers a visual connection and view through to the lower level with triangle cut outs revealing and leading to the downstairs area.
The material palette is a combination of exposed aggregate poured concrete for the staircase and the original refurbished timber floors. The dramatic floor to ceiling 30-foot walls comprise a tessellated tiling system of repeating forms, oscillating geometries and shapes that shrink and grow, in three honed marbles: Kenya Black, Bardiglio and Lilac. It offers stone as a series of samples and textured geometry that becomes a compositional language defining the space. Blackened steel shelving and hanging display systems are integrated into the tiling system. Full height fabric curtains along the facing walls complement the stone and soften the space.
An outdoor-indoor living and breathing sensibility is accentuated by the contrast of exposed aggregate poured concrete benches and a grey wall lined with an installation of green plants. The store features custom developed furniture designed in collaboration with Proenza Schouler and Doug McCollough. Throughout the space, it is a mix of familiar materials used in uniquely defined ways.

For Men Only

A NEW IMAGE FOR PRADA IN NEW IMAGE
Prada renews its men's store in Via Monte Napoleone 6, Milano with a project designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi. The inside space, arranged on three floors, occupies a total surface of 860 square metres. Outside, the storefront, that respects the building’s original architecture, features a new, wide central entrance creating an immediate visual connection between the store’s inside and the city.
The ground floor and first floor offer the leather goods, accessories, footwear and ready-to-wear collections. The Prada Made to Order service provides for the possibility to customise garments, accessories and footwear by choosing among different materials, finishes and colours.
On the second floor, the Made to Measure service is available: a project designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding male customers, whereby a wide range of "bespoke" variations of suits, coats, jackets, shirts and trousers are created.
A new combination between the masculine, contemporary character of the location and an apparent dissonance in the choice of materials and finishes characterises the ground floor. The black and white chequered marble floor, one of Prada’s historic brand identity elements, contrasts against the walls clad in natural aluminium corrugated panels, an experimental material looking like a 1950s industrial finish.
Also, the traditional beamed ceiling architectural theme is interpreted by matching the classic Prada pale green with aluminium details. The upper floor, about 220 square metres large, is an open space, characterised by ebony wood floors and aluminium panels covering the walls completely.
This environment is rhythmically arranged with a wall made of an evenly spaced sequence of windows and a long black marble colonnade, interrupted by the marble stairs and by the crystal elevator casing connecting all the floors. Light metal and crystal frames are used to display products, whilst bright red, green and blue saffiano leather is used in the design of display counters.
Furniture is completed by seats and sofas made of precious ostrich leather in the same colours. The top floor, bright with daylight, is clad in thin staves of wood. The masculine, atelier-like flair of this space is interpreted in a more intimate key here; the product display also highlights the welcoming character of this environment, which is dedicated to special collections and the Made to Measure service.
