MARNI BOUTIQUE IN SAN FRANCISCO

Marni is pleased to announce the opening of its new flagship boutique at 77 Maiden Lane, in San Francisco’s Union Square district.

The new store design concept was initially launched with the Madrid and Milan boutiques and is the result of the collaboration between Consuelo Castiglioni, Marni's creative director, and Luz Maria Jaramillo, the brand's interior designer. The new Marni retail experience in this northern Californian city spans 3500 square feet across two levels, bringing together diverse geometries in a harmonious mix of forms, materials and moods that embody the brand’s aesthetic language. The boutique retains the building’s original architectural features, such as the high ceilings, illuminated by multiform Barrisol light sources, to give it a spacious feel.

The women’s collections are displayed on the ground floor, where the variegated hues of the asymmetrical marble floor tiles complement the chromatic spectrum of white, green and grey used to delineate the clothing and accessory collections. Geometric carpets and plush ottomans in sage-green velvet create the backdrop for displays where handbags and totes stand on canvas-wrapped shelving, eyewear and bijoux find their niche in crystal and steel boxes that punctuate the walls, and shoes pair up in leather-lined alcoves.

A granite and glass staircase leads to the basement, home exclusively to  the men’s collections, where the theme of marble accents and bold chromatic elements continues, with display and counter surfaces depicted in yellow, octane, magenta and optical white, a striking contrast to the pale smoothness of the concrete floor.

The opening of this new boutique in the United States further strengthens Marni’s presence in this strategically important market.

NAPOLI

A NEW PRADA STORE IN NAPLES

Prada opens a new store in Naples inside a beautiful old palazzo in Via Filangieri.

The store occupies a total surface area of 760 square metres on three floors, offering the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, leather goods, accessories and footwear collections. The intervention, curated by architect Roberto Baciocchi, served to enlarge and modernize the space with due respect for the building’s original architecture. The façade features an entrance and three display windows framed in Marquina black marble and it is decorated with polished-steel and coloured-fabric fixed canopies. The ground floor houses the women’s leather goods, accessories and footwear collections. This pace is organized in a sequence of rooms decorated with the elements that define Prada’s worldwide image, such as black and white chequered marble flooring, walls lined with green canvas, and steel and glass display cabinets set on veined black marble bases. The two rooms dedicated to leather goods lead to an area of black marble-cladded walls featuring the accessories collection, then on to the women’s footwear section. This space features a new interpretation of the ‘classic Prada display niche’: a volume cut out of the green canvas-lined walls. A black marble staircase leads to the first floor. Here, walls are decorated with a sequence of steel rods cutting into the panels of green canvas and mirrors. On the first floor, narrow skylights create plays of light which reflect on the modern furnishings made of thin panels of Perspex and glass, enhancing the womenswear collection hosted in this warm, intimate ambience. This room leads to the men’s section. The accessories and travel collections are displayed in the first area decorated with a black Marquina marble floor. In the second room, dedicated to menswear, the ebony chosen for the walls and floor defines the setting’s masculine character. Polished-steel display cabinets and russet ostrich-leather sofas enhance the more intimate, secluded space reserved for men’s footwear.

Prada in Osaka, Japan

PRADA OPENS ITS FIRST FREESTANDING STORE IN OSAKA, JAPAN

Prada opens its first freestanding store in Osaka, Japan, in the upscale Shinsaibashi district. The store, designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi, offers the men's and women's ready-to wear, leather goods, accessories and footwear collections and it occupies a total surface of about 1500 square metres on five levels, reaching up to 30 metres in height.
The imposing outer storefront, which pays tribute to artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, is a structure made of backlit panels in golden-coloured aluminium and polished steel, that creates an unusual kinetic effect, both in daylight and at night-time. At the base, a wide entrance is flanked by two windows.
Different environments characterised by unique atmospheres alternate at individual levels, emphasised by a sequence of ceiling openings that creates an unusual visual connection between different floors and leads to a transparent skylight.
On the ground floor, fixtures in polished steel and crystal, with green fabric backdrops and black marble bases, enhance the men's and women's leather goods and accessories collections. The black and white chequered marble floor, one of Prada's historic brand identity elements, becomes almost optical. Display counters with details in coloured saffiano leather and green velvet seats define the environment. A staircase in black Marquina marble, framed in bronze-coloured metal panels, wraps around the volume occupied by the elevator, which is made of crystal and burnished metal.
On the first floor, the space is defined by green fabric walls with display niches dedicated to women's leather goods and footwear; furniture is completed by green velvet seats and by crystal and polished steel tables.
On the second floor, that offers women's ready-to-wear, green fabric walls and display fixtures made of perspex panels combine with geometrically shaped tables and with the supple “Clover Leaf” green velvet sofas, designed by Verner Panton and exclusively reproduced for Prada.
The two upper levels, that display the men's collections, are characterised by thin staves flooring and ebony wood walls. Precious cases and counters in palladium-coloured metal lend great personality to the whole space, which is completed with rust-coloured ostrich leather sofas and dark brown carpets.
