Hello New York!

109 Crosby Street, SoHo, New York City – is the location of the very first MYKITA Shop in the US. The shop concept of the Berlin-based eyewear specialists unites the company’s own design principles with optical precision made in Germany.
The architecture of the MYKITA Shop is based on the progressive composition of different elements and contrasting materials. The unique concept is a marriage of three underlying features: mass-produced, ready-made objects removed from their original context, combined with purpose-designed furniture and a stage-like lighting concept. The result is an art installation with a bold and simple construction that retains the original character of the art deco factory building.
The primary design element of the shop interior is the all-white MYKITA Wall. It comprises perforated steel angle beads that are reinvented from their regular function as heavy-duty shelving supports. The resulting structure is backlit and serves as a presentation area giving the frames ample space to present themselves. Individual shelf elements inserted into the wall provide each model with its own little stage. In addition, out-of-service flight attendant trolleys that have circled the globe a thousand times are given a new lease of life here as a storage facility.
The integrated “Relaxed Vision Center” is a special lab equipped with state-of-the-art precision instruments from Carl Zeiss research. Customers can consult the MYKITA in-house optometrist, who generates customized optical profiles and performs an exact adaptation of frame and lens to the wearer’s face. Quality, precision and products “made in Germany” are the common themes behind the partnership of MYKITA with the worldrenowned optical solutions specialist Zeiss.
At night, when even NYC is alleged to sleep, the ceiling is lit up by a fluorescent-tube construct. The light installation is aligned with the old metal pipes from the original sprinkler system in a conscious reference to the building’s industrial heritage. This finishing touch unites the present with the architectural past.

New York is now home to the eighth MYKITA Shop worldwide – joining Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Vienna, Tokyo, Monterrey (Mexico) and Cartagena (Colombia).
The US accounts for around 20% of the international brand’s sales volume, making it one of the most important markets for the Berlin company.

MAIYET

MAIYET OPENS FIRST BOUTIQUE AT 16 CROSBY STREET, NEW YORK

Maiyet will open its flagship retail store at 16 Crosby Street in SOHO. This is the first stand-alone boutique for the brand. Maiyet is pioneering a new luxury by celebrating rare artisanal skills from unexpected places and in doing so seeks to promote prosperity and dignity in places that need it most. The store will mirror the brand’s unique creative philosophies; discovering and celebrating master artisans from across the globe and bring them into the luxury world of Maiyet.

Located between Grand and Howard Streets the 2,500 square foot space emphasizes the luxury label’s celebration of what is special and unique mixing old world traditions with new world design; a return to the artisanal roots of luxury. For their first store Maiyet partnered with the French architecture firm Ciguë. The Paris-based architecture studio, known for their deep commitment to craftsmanship, bold, modern aesthetic and their utilization of authentic materials made them a natural match for the collaboration.
"In the Maiyet spirit, the store is a special ode to modern, minimal luxury, and artisanal handiwork throughout the details." Kristy Caylor, Co-Founder,Creative Director & President. Gestures are found in the form of hand foxed mirrors, hand applied plaster in modern silhouettes, and clean architectural steel & concrete fixtures. The neutral space features accents of color - blond oak floors, blackened steel hanging fixtures, golden leather seating, brass accents and white plaster work.
The space will house all categories of Maiyet, which include Women's RTW, accessories, shoes, semi-precious & fine jewelry. You can expect block printing from Jaipur, horn and metal work from Kenya, embroideries from Ahmedabad and hand-woven silks from Varanasi. The store will also feature a selection of exclusive products across all categories – with plans to expand the offering for the holiday season.
"Our Soho store offers a venue where the story of Maiyet can be told to the world. Through the broadest expression of our collection, compelling events and outstanding customer service we will introduce new people to the brand and build on the loyal following we have already generated." Paul van Zyl, Co-Founder & CEO.
