Marni

MEN’S F/W 2015-2016

Regeneration. The new Marni collection lands a ponderous gaze on the past, whilst bringing it firmly to the present. The Museo Marino Marini, where the show takes place, is a seamless juxtaposition of existing elements and new architectural interventions, so is the collection. Neat shapes charge up in the choice of tactile materials, in the bold play of colors and textures, suggesting an idea of easy elegance.

Fur, knit and sturdy tailoring toy with sophisticated quirks of personality. Zip-up tunic tops layered on printed shirts and skinny sky trousers suggest dynamism. Collarless coats have the ease of a cardigan and the intimacy of a robe, while double-breasted styles have a welcoming roominess.

Formality is approached from a slightly off-kilter angle: mismatched checks, broken suits, plain dress shirts paired with knitted ties. Jackets are compact, with a high buttoning, while trousers flare at the hem, or fall straight. The inside of the garments and their details are as studied and surprising as the outside: colorful pocket linings, contrast taping, hidden buttoning.

Fur is a strong feature in many ways throughout the collection. Alpaca on outerwear, long sheepskin gilets closed by snaps worn on top of suits, bonded goat cardigan coats, astrakhan and bleached alpaca scarves.

Knits are boxy and tactile, with a home-spun quality.

The color palette is earthy and deep: tones of brown, blue, grey, black are accented with flashes of red, yellow, flesh. Prints are painterly blossoms. Fabrics are precious and firm, with a stress on textures: twisted flannel, herringbone tweed, linen-wool, double faced angora cashmere, wool gabardine, bonded suede.

The progressive tone of the collection carries on in the accessories. Sturdy zip-up boots and derbies have contrast "mended" heels, sliced rubber toe caps give sneakers an old-school feel. Goat fur backpacks and wool apron bags match the looks.

1920s club

On February 20, 2014, during Milan Fashion Week, Prada presented a new chapter of The Iconoclasts project.

Edward Enninful’s original vision for Prada women’s and men’s Monte Napoleone stores, was inspired by the energy and original thought of the ‘Harlem Renaissance’.

Enninful’s Prada women’s store was filled with a cast of black and white mannequins dressed in Prada SS14 and archive looks – guests at an imagined 1920s club – complete with glittering art-deco bar, evoking the atmosphere of Harlem. The men’s store hosted a cast of black and white mannequins dressed in Prada SS14 and archive pieces, set amongst game tables, 1920s food and cocktails, and the strains of a jazz blues band.

More than 2000 guests attended the events. Maria Carla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Joan Small, Mario Boselli, Beppe Modenese e Piero Pinto, Carla Sozzani, Pupi Solari, Linda Fargo, Franco Pené,  Marpessa Hennink, Francesco Vezzoli, Paola Manfrin, Marta Marzotto, Allegra Bossi Pucci, Arturo Artom, Anthony C. Saccon, Remo e Francesca Ruffini, Lawrence Steele, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Italo Zucchelli, Marco De Vincenzo, Sara Battaglia, Stefano Tonchi, Anna Dello Russo, Angelica Cheung, Eva Chen, Giovanna Battaglia, Martina Mondadori, Micol Sabbadini, Candela Novembre, Ilaria Norsa, Guido Taroni, Cesare Cunaccia amongst the others.

Prada ha accolto oltre 2000 ospiti tra cui segnaliamo Maria Carla Boscono, Natasha Poly, Joan Small, Mario Boselli, Beppe Modenese e Piero Pinto, Carla Sozzani, Pupi Solari, Linda Fargo, Franco Pené, Marpessa Hennink, Francesco Vezzoli, Paola Manfrin, Marta Marzotto, Allegra Bossi Pucci, Arturo Artom, Anthony C. Saccon, Remo e Francesca Ruffini, Lawrence Steele, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Italo Zucchelli, Marco De Vincenzo, Sara Battaglia, Stefano Tonchi, Anna Dello Russo, Angelica Cheung, Eva Chen, Giovanna Battaglia, Martina Mondadori, Micol Sabbadini, Candela Novembre, Ilaria Norsa, Guido Taroni, Cesare Cunaccia.

Prada exhibition

Costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and Catherine Martin

for Baz Lurhmann’s upcoming film of The Great Gatsby

to be on display in New York, Tokyo and Shanghai

A special exhibition of selected costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby will be on display May 1 – 12, 2013 at the Prada New York Epicenter at 575 Broadway in New York City. The exhibition will then travel and appear at the Prada Tokyo Epicenter store from June 14 – 30 and the IFC Mall in Shanghai mid-July.

An Academy Award® and Tony® winning costume designer and art director, Catherine Martin is world-renowned for her collaborations with husband Baz Lurhmann on the films Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge and the Broadway stage design for La Bohéme. The exhibition titled Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby includes women’s gowns, dresses, hats, shoes and jewelry as well as sketches, production stills, backstage footage and film trailers. The exhibition opening will coincide with the world première of Luhrmann’s film The Great Gatsby on May 1 at the Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. The Great Gatsby will go on to open the 66th Cannes International Film Festival on May 15, 2013.

Very strict guidelines came from Catherine Martin in terms of references and details on fabrics, colors, materials that had to be period accurate, but modern at the same time. While working on the costumes, Miuccia Prada realized how many pieces created for the Prada and Miu Miu runways in different seasons had a very ‘20s mood once integrated in the movie’s direction. At once historical and utterly contemporary, the dresses are realized in brilliant iridescent metallic lamé, sequins, silk taffeta, dyed fur, velvet and styled with fantastical hats, shoes and accessories.

The exhibition includes mannequins displaying looks for each character coupled with video content drawn from the film and behind-the-scenes and, for the New York Epicenter, a two hundred foot mural depicting a montage drawn from the spectacular party scenes showing Jay Gatsby’s Long Island mansion. The exhibition - curated by New York studio 2x4 - is designed to change for each iteration and reflect the unique characteristics of each location.

in mostra a New York, Tokyo e Shanghai
