SHADE FOR THE SUNNY AND SUNNIES FOR THE SHADY

" Anna Karin Karlsson’s fascination for sunglasses started as a child when a friend's mother returned from Florida equipped with 80's glamour.
Anna-Karin Karlsson was thrown into the highest end of eyewear fashion at 19 after finishing her acting/art degree when she landed a job in the oldest and one of the most renowned opticians in London. She quickly advanced in the Old Bond street practice and dispensed and designed eyewear for Sultans, Princesses, Kings, Lords, Dukes, and mere mortals. The men who had their bespoke suits made up on nearby Saville Row would come to the practice to have matching eyewear custom made. Today Karlsson has a handful of clients around the world that she privately styles and designs for, and launched her own collection in 2011 "

MYKITA S/S 2013 Collection

MYKITA S/S 2013 Collection

The perfect round form
The circular form is the recurring theme in MYKITA’s collections for the spring/summer 2013 season.
RUND & PANTO

Round is the fashion statement for 2013, and the YOLANDA model is the quintessence of that principle’s realisation; the fine temples and delicate bridge keep a low profile so as to highlight the round form of the lenses. The large, dark-tinted lenses create a geometric precision that gives this frame its character.

LUZ is a tribute to the sporty/outdoors look of the 1960s. Still vaguely recognisable as a classic panto form, the curved top line and the high keyhole-style bridge lend line and the high keyhole-style bridge lend LUZ the cool character of early aviator frames. Both frames are available in the colours
Blue Pearl, Taupe,Chocolate Chips, Tobago and Black with corresponding lens colours

With the models SIGUR and KAISA from the MYKITA Lite collection, the focus is on fine contours.
KAISA is the panto form for the 21st century: the classic form, translated into MYKITA’s modern stainless steel concept, is
transformed into an ultra-contemporary option by the colour combinations Silver/Neon Pink, Gold/Warm Grey and Silver/Black. SIGUR is marked by the
radical simplicity of the round form. Delicate and modern at the same time, it likewise has imaginative colour combinations providing a decisive accent:
Silver/Neon Pink, Gold/Warm Grey and Silver/Black.

SPORTIV & VINTAGE
The shape of TAULANT is a reference to the early days of sports goggles. Those first frames boasted a long bridge that connected the two frame sections and boosted stability. This was the moment when the double bridge was born – a symbol of activity and sportiness. Back then invented for outdoor pursuits like flying a plane or cruising along on a motorbike, the sporty-classic vintage look of the 1930s is transferred here by MYKITA into the present. TAULANT is available in the versions Glossy Gold with green lenses, Pearl with bordeaux red, Black with black and Shiny Silver with black-grey lenses.

MYKITA DECADES S/S 2013

Focus on the round
The spring/summer 2013 sees a continuation of the colour and design concept behind the MYKITA DECADES line. The collection, released each year in sync with the rhythm of the Paris shows, will welcome two new fashionable tones for the season. The colours of the sunglasses models MARLENE and SCARLETT represent a conscious break from classic forms; Coral Red, Pastel Grey and Opal, International Blue, Jet Black and Safrane follow up on the preceding collection and incorporate a combination of the traditional and the contemporary that is characteristic for the DECADES line. The “Round” credo was definitive for both the prescription spectacles and the sunglasses line of the DECADES collection. The MARLENE model is a supersized variation on the classic panto form, given a far more fullbodied form and more prominent sides for the spring. The primary design element for the SCARLETT model was the geometric circle. The striking colours and the dark lens tones give both models a cutout-like character. The gold-coated hinges and the semi-matt finish correspond with the subtle reflective gold layer on the lenses.

The further evolution of the DECADES prescription line, which cites era-defining spectacles frames of the 20th century, likewise focused on the “Round” and “Panto” themes. Both forms are again manifest in the new models COCO and BIBI. The latter combines bold dimensions with circular lenses, with the prominent bridge providing the contrast to the frame. In the case of COCO, too, the bridge is the main stylistic element. Both models are hand-painted and available in the colour combinations Gold/Coral Red, Gold/Opal and Silver/Black

MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA S / S 2013

MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA
S / S 2013

DD01. A construction.
From Latin: constructio = layer together, build up, erect; from the prefix con- = and the verb
struere = to layer, assemble

The progressive use of contrasting materials, the aesthetics of an openly displayed construction and the melange of cool and warm colour tones are the defining elements of DD01, the first liaison between MYKITA and DAMIR DOMA.
What began with an in-depth study of forms, colours and surfaces, over the course of the collaboration ultimately developed into a circular silhouette in stainless steel and horn. The combination of cool stainless steel and warm natural horn creates both visual and haptic contrast reminiscent of the characteristic mixture of coarse, stiff fabric and soft flowing textures in DAMIR DOMA’s collections.
The result is a futuristic look that elevates the recurring round motif in Doma’s work to another level. “This particular shape perfectly rounds up the DAMIR DOMA look. From the very beginning, our aim was to translate the traditional shape into something modern and create an iconic object,” says Damir Doma. At the same time, DD01 is a historic reference to the round glasses worn by the intellectual avant-garde throughout time.
The beauty of DD01 lies not in hiding its construction but in revealing it. Typical of MYKITA frames, all of the components are cut out of high-quality stainless steel, coated in gold, platinum or graphite, developed from flat metal sheets and only transformed into a threedimensional object by bending and folding. The horn rings, visible at the front and at the back, are encompassed by the frame and openly reveal the structure of the glasses – a reminiscent of the layerings in Damir Doma’s fashion designs.
“The openly revealed construction of the glasses reflects MYKITA’s fundamental design approach: the technical solution must at the same time be an aesthetic one. We combine traditional manufacturing by hand with modern technology, resulting in a contemporary luxury product, made from the finest, natural materials,” says Moritz Krueger, CEO and Creative Director of MYKITA.
In a complex process, the rings are produced from eight different millimetre-thin horn plates combined with each other to create the individual blend of tones. The natural horn is available in the colours grey-white or grey-anthracite with corresponding grey, brown or black lenses, or as a correction frame. All lenses are from the traditional lens manufacturer ZEISS.
The material, which has been used for making glasses for centuries because of its exceptional skin-friendly characteristics, comes from Indian water buffalo and is supplied by Germany’s most renowned producer of horn products. The horn rings, which sit directly on the nose, guarantee perfect comfort for the wearer.
The packaging of the glasses is a beautiful collage of natural materials: DD01 comes in a highquality leather case, with a special strap system so the glasses can be worn as an accessory attached to the belt and are incorporated into the look.
DD01 can be purchased in all MYKITA shops, the Damir Doma flagship store as well as selected opticians and fashion stores from spring 2013.

About Damir Doma

DAMIR DOMA’s collections are lit by a soft, melancholic quest for tranquility. Examining the ephemeral quality of the human body, his designs encapsulate a measured study of proportion and a melange of textures – divining a juxtaposition of rough and refined.

Silhouettes draw upon a myriad of inspirations from the worlds of art and architecture, foregoing embellishment and decoration for a purity of form. Doma’s work is harmoniously linked by a sense of uniform and an obsessive interplay between shadow and light.

Questioning the modern wardrobe, garments offer multiple expressions of identity – contrasting elements of androgyny with dress codes across cultural and historical spheres. The Croatian-born designer grew up surrounded by toiles in his mother’s atelier in Germany and later studied fashion in Munich and Berlin, where he graduated in 2004.

After gaining experience in the ateliers of prominent Belgian designers in Antwerp, he relocated to Paris to join the Paper Rain group in 2007. Damir launched his first menswear collection on the official schedule for the Spring Summer 2008 season, and three years later showed his first womens prét-à-porter collection for Autumn Winter 2010.
