Reclined in the twilight of an anti-paradise, the stars of Prada’s resort campaign fix us with a seductive stare. At first glance they could be mistaken for angelic beauties, immaculate in a sea of luminous floral prints and jeweled accessories. But there is a darker more powerful side to these women and this story shot by Steven Meisel, a twist in the tale that is quintessentially Prada.

Amanda Murphy, Anna Ewers and Cameron Russell are knowing seductresses, modern femme fatales moon-bathing in a nocturnal paradise where dreams have become dislodged. The pale lighting that illuminates their faces like moonbeams extracts all natural colour and form from their features and re-paints it onto the clothes, bags and jewellery.

The practicality of a khaki sunbed and simplicity of grey slate flagging provide a stonecold contrast to the tropical prints and bold colours of the collection. In this nocturnal utopia the feminine power and strength of the models takes over, as if the force of the moon itself was propelling their steady, sensual pose.

A una prima occhiata potrebbero essere scambiate per bellezze angeliche, incontaminate in un mare di luminose stampe floreali e accessori tempestati di pietre preziose. Ma in queste donne esiste anche un lato più oscuro, potente, e la storia raccontata dalle immagini di Steven Meisel ha una svolta inattesa: Prada alla quintessenza.

Amanda Murphy, Anna Ewers e Cameron Russell sono esperte seduttrici, moderne femme fatale che prendono la tintarella di luna in un paradiso notturno dove sono relegati i sogni. Simile a raggi lunari, la pallida illuminazione che rischiara i loro volti assorbe completamente ogni forma e colore naturale dai loro lineamenti e li ridipinge sugli abiti, le borse e gioielli.

La praticità di un lettino da sole color khaki e la semplicità delle lastre di ardesia grigia fanno da contrasto alle stampe tropicali e ai colori audaci della collezione. In questa utopia notturna, il potere e la forza femminile delle modelle prendono il comando, come se l’energia stessa della luna fosse il propellente della loro posa sicura, sensuale.

Under the glare of the spotlight, and the watchful gaze of the casting director, nine young hopeful actresses take centre stage and prepare for their close ups.

The hunter and the hunted, watching each other like wild beasts.

One by one they are selected and cast aside like slides in an ever revolving carousel. A dance between reality and fiction, these women are not who you think they are…

Prada Womenswear Fall/Winter 2013 Campaign

 

Sophistication and raw sensuality come together in Prada’s fall/winter campaign, shot by Steven Meisel in New York. A stellar ensemble of fresh new faces such as Amanda Murphy and Kristine Froseth star alongside iconic, era-defining stars like Christy Turlington and Freja Beha. They inhabit seductively stark scenes, the pivotal characters in an enigmatic portrait of femininity.

Gazing from scuffed leather chairs or industrial stools, with oil slick hair and hyper real complexions, the models magnetically command our attention. When the camera moves closer, the effect intensifies. The models gaze through gleaming eyewear, their insouciant expressions countering the high polish of the frames.

Stark lighting, cloud-grey walls and naked floorboards are the severe canvas for a rich palette of autumnal hues, exquisite furs and glistening leather. This intoxicating mix of the raw and the refined captures the duality at the heart of this new campaign, and Prada’s new take on femininity.

La raffinatezza si fonde ad una cruda sensualita’ nella campagna Prada Autunno/Inverno 2013, fotografata da Steven Meisel a New York. I volti nuovi di Amanda Murphy e Kristine Froseth emergono accanto a icone di stile che hanno definito un’epoca, come Christy Turlington e Freja Beha.

Protagoniste di un’enigmatica rappresentazione della femminilita’, riempiono con il loro fascino uno scenario spoglio. Modelle dallo sguardo magnetico catturano la nostra attenzione, osservandoci da poltrone in pelle rovinata o da sgabelli industriali, con i capelli lucidi di olio e l'incarnato iperrealista. Man mano che si avvicina l’obbiettivo, l’effetto si intensifica. Ci guardano attraverso occhiali scuri con un'espressione indifferente, che contrasta con la superficie riflettente delle montature.
Luci estreme, pareti grigie irregolari e pavimenti in legno grezzo fungono da sfondo severo a una miscela di sfumature autunnali, splendide pellicce e pelle lucente. Questo connubio inebriante di grezzo e raffinato cattura la duplicita’ che sta alla base della campagna, e della nuova interpretazione che Prada da della femminilita’.
