New York Fashion Week Spring 2014
SEPT 10, 2013. LINCOLN
CENTER, NEW YORK – British designer Jenny Packham showed her
SS14 Collection at The Studio, Lincoln Center. Loosely influenced by the
Australian cult film ‘Picnic At Hanging Rock’ (1975, directed by Peter Weir and
based on the novel by Joan Lindsay), the Collection was inspired by the
exquisite styling of the film – a seventies take on austere Edwardian
attire.
Fusing classic 70’s
prints with traditional embellishments and materials championed at the turn of
the 20th Century, this season's offering featured Polka dots, checks and
stripes mimicked in beautiful pearl and Swarovski beading. Brick red, cobalt
blue and lime green tones were contrasted with a delicate array of soft powder
pinks and silver marbles. Translucent, weightless organza added a whimsical
romance to the collection whilst waists clinched with satin ribbons referenced
the silhouettes of the Edwardian era.
