Ermanno Scervino

Prada meets Wes Andeson

Castello Cavalcanti by Wes Anderson Prada Classic # 3*
Prada is proud to present its latest film collaboration: an eight-minute short by acclaimed American director Wes Anderson. Castello Cavalcanti is part of Anderson’s ongoing auteur universe, which includes the ‘modern classics’, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited and Moonrise Kingdom — except this time, we’re in Italy, it’s September 1955, and Jason Schwartzman has just crashed his racing car into Jesus Christ.
What ensues is a ‘Wes Andersonian’ folk tale about fate. Filmed on a pitch-perfect period set in Cinecittà, Castello Cavalcanti finds the urbane, slick Schwartzman stranded in a small town that’s been skipped over by modernity. “Where am I?” he asks. The locals pause from playing cards and point at a brick building: “Castello Cavalcanti.” It’s a one piazza kind of place, where everyone’s distantly related to everyone else, the bus comes not very often, and family secrets are shared over spaghetti. Suddenly, Schwartzman’s lost outsider realizes that Castello Cavalcanti is not nowhere. It’s somewhere. Special. Ancestral. Nothing happens without reason, and the steering wheel that his brother-in-law put on back to front may be part of a master plan. “In a way I’m glad I crashed,” he confesses. “It’s a warning for me.” Castello Cavalcanti is cinematographed by the celebrated Darius Khondji, whose camera darts around the set like a curious telescope. Bright, acid colours of fifties Formica and neon signage glow. A glance of a pretty waitress. The generosity of strangers. It’s home as it used to be.

 * Iconoclastic and experimental, the Prada Classics project continues to redefine those boundaries, reaching into the adjacent fields of art, architecture and film. Castello Cavalcanti is the latest incarnation. From the filmic imagination of Wes Anderson to the history of Italian cinema, it is an extension of the cinematic scope of the Prada universe.

Castello Cavalcanti follows on from Prada’s 2012 collaboration with Roman Polanski, A Therapy, which featured Helena Bonham-Carter and Ben Kingsley. The short film will debut, with a world première at the Rome Film Festival on November 13th 2013 as part of the “Special Events Out of Competition” section.

The film is available on www.prada.com from 6:30 pm CET.

Castello Cavalcanti by Wes Anderson Prada Classic # 3*

RICHARD CHAI

Richard Chai, a New York native, began his career in fashion at an early age with a prestigious internship at Geoffrey Beene as an undergraduate at Parsons School of Design. Upon graduation from Parsons, Chai continued his studies at the Lissa School in Paris, while working as a sketcher at Lanvin. Returning to New York one year later, Chai continued to gain experience with several prestigious brands including Armani Exchange, Donna Karan, and Marc Jacobs. In September 2001, Chai was appointed Creative Design Director of all TSE brands, including men's, women's and TSE Say, marking the first time in the company's history that a single person oversaw all brands.

Through his experiences at some of the world's most influential fashion houses, Chai developed a keen eye for detail, a reverence for architectural design elements, and a strong belief in the importance and value of the construction of clothes, leading him to launch his namesake brand in September 2004. He debuted his women’s collection for Spring 2005 in a formal runway presentation that was well received for its understated, yet sophisticated elegance. In 2008 Richard Chai was selected as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards finalist for womenswear.

In June 2008 for Spring 2009, Richard Chai launched his eponymous menswear collection with a presentation during Paris Fashion Week. As with his womenswear, Chai takes an architectural approach with his menswear. Design signatures such as arced seams, intriguing fabric treatments and eclectic color palettes lend a distinctly modern flair while keeping in tune with the classic heritage of old world tailoring and craftsmanship.

In September 2009, the designer debuted a new contemporary-priced women’s collection called Richard Chai – LOVE for Spring 2010. Considered the female counterpart to his menswear label LOVE parallels his men’s line both in its accessible price and in its aesthetic of uniform-inspired classics refined with a modern, yet youthful sensibility.

Designed and operated in New York, Richard Chai and Richard LOVE are distributed at such retailers as Saks Fifth Avenue, Odin New York, and Pas De Deux in New York. In June 2010, Richard Chai was named Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2010 CFDA Fashion Awards and a finalist for GQ/CFDA’s Best New Men’s Designer in America.

For Spring/Summer 2014 Richard Chai takes inspiration from geometric shapes, executing them in a way that feels soft and fluid. Unexpected combinations of contrasting elements are thoughtfully translated to emphasize a sense of interplay and juxtaposition, while maintaining Chai's signature sophisticated design aesthetic. The runway show also debuted select styles of leather jackets from the new Andrew Marc x Richard Chai collaboration.

Hunter + rag & bone = collaboration

For FW 2013, rag & bone has partnered with Hunter, the iconic British brand with over 150 years of boot-making expertise and recognized worldwide as the premier purveyor of Wellington boots, for an exclusive women's collection.
Combining their respective British heritage and adherence to the traditions of expert craftsmanship, the FW 2013 Hunter + rag & bone collaboration features two distinct, classic styles which elegantly balance utilitarianism with fashion-forward design.
"As English guys, we grew up being familiar with Hunter boots - I got my first pair of their wellies when I was around eight! Hunter is an extremely iconic British brand, which remains as relevant today as it did when it was founded over a century and a half ago, and we feel very proud to have the opportunity to collaborate with them. I believe the two styles we created really represent signature elements from both our brands." – Marcus Wainwright, Co-Managing Partner, rag & bone
"Hunter may be a quintessential British brand but we also always see so many women on the streets of Manhattan wearing their boots. Not only is this testament to the brand's global appeal, it resonated with us as we are British guys living in New York. We are really excited about this collaboration." – David Neville, Co-Managing Partner, rag & bone
The two handcrafted boots in the capsule collection are the Hunter rag & bone Tall and the Hunter rag & bone Short. Both styles come in Black/Army Green, Black, Army Green, Burgundy and Black/Navy.
Hunter rag & bone Tall is an equestrian-style, knee-length boot which combines traditional elements of the classic Hunter Original boot with rag & bone's signature hardware for a tailored fit.
Hunter rag & bone Short, is a shorter version which has a motorcycle boot inspired silhouette and also features rag & bone's signature hardware.
Pricing: Tall: £175, Short: £195
Available for pre-order now at www.rag-bone.com. Officially on sale in rag & bone stores and www.rag-bone.com on September 9th.
