PROENZA SCHOULER GOES EXPERIMENTAL FOR LE BON MARCHE PARTY ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26^th

Ariel Pink, the LA-based experimental rock musician known for his haunting often polarizing songs, will be taking the stage at  the opening party of Proenza Schouler exhibition at Le Bon Marche this Wednesday evening.  His performance, to take place in the center of the atrium, will start at 9:45 PM. The singer’s homemade recordings have an international cult following  and he is known for his rare public appearances.  “His music is so raw.  Something different for the Left Bank,” said the designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. The exhibition opened on Monday, February 24th at Le Bon Marche and includes 10 windows on the rue de Sevres and 80 of the designers favorite looks plus a pop-up shop of exclusive designs for the store. Ariel Pink has collaborated with the brand in the past.

C’est l’évènement: le duo de créateurs New-yorkais Lazaro Hernandez et Jack McCollough, plus connu sous le nom de leur marque Proenza Schouler, investit Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche.

Les deux créateurs y présentent les pièces phares de leurs collections et leurs inspirations dans une série de projets exclusifs. Une exposition prend place au rez-de-chaussée, mettant en scène de grands cubes impression béton. Un film invite à découvrir les deux designers et leur univers. 80 silhouettes emblématiques du duo illustrent leur parcours créatif.

Du 15 février au 22 mars, une installation de béton est mise en place dans chacune des  10 vitrines de la rue de Sèvres. Par l’effet d’une glace sans tain, une silhouette apparaît toutes les 10 secondes.

Le duo de créateurs présente une collection capsule créée spécialement pour le Bon Marché Rive Gauche. Dans un espace dédié du rez-de-chaussée, habillé de noir et de béton, irradient tee-shirts, foulards, pulls rayés, sacs PS1 et PS11, portefeuilles, tote bags…un véritable trésor aux inspirations graphiques et tropicales.

Toujours en exclusivité : la présentation tant attendue de la robe de la collection Printemps Eté 2014 ainsi qu’une sélection de pièces uniques de la collection Printemps Eté 2014 : une douzaine de silhouettes épurées à la rigueur magistrale.

Proenza Schouler Announces

The Opening Of Their Flagship Store At

121 Greene Street in New York

 

 

Proenza Schouler announced today the opening of their second store at 121 Greene Street in New York.

Designed by Adjaye Associates, the flagship location features a 2500 square foot retail area and brings forth elements from the Madison Avenue location.

Housed within a historic cast iron fronted building, an antechamber with sliding glass doors forms a ‘façade within a façade’ that acts as a display area as visitors enter the space. Once inside, the space is dominated by a number of planes and geometries culminating in a dramatic concrete staircase leading to a lower level illuminated by natural light flooding in from the original glass canopy to the rear of the building.

The ground floor, which hosts mainly ready to wear, and the lower level, featuring handbags, shoes and small leather goods, are punctuated by a series of concrete display cubes that run throughout the space. At street level, the main double height is rectangular on plan and culminates in a blackened steel screen that reaches the full height of the entire double volume space. Harkening back to the original bronze screen in the first Proenza Schouler store, it offers a visual connection and view through to the lower level with triangle cut outs revealing and leading to the downstairs area.

The material palette is a combination of exposed aggregate poured concrete for the staircase and the original refurbished timber floors. The dramatic floor to ceiling 30-foot walls comprise a tessellated tiling system of repeating forms, oscillating geometries and shapes that shrink and grow, in three honed marbles: Kenya Black, Bardiglio and Lilac. It offers stone as a series of samples and textured geometry that becomes a compositional language defining the space. Blackened steel shelving and hanging display systems are integrated into the tiling system. Full height fabric curtains along the facing walls complement the stone and soften the space.

An outdoor-indoor living and breathing sensibility is accentuated by the contrast of exposed aggregate poured concrete benches and a grey wall lined with an installation of green plants. The store features custom developed furniture designed in collaboration with Proenza Schouler and Doug McCollough. Throughout the space, it is a mix of familiar materials used in uniquely defined ways.
